Acetic Acid 0.6% Research Solution

A 0.6% aqueous solution of acetic acid (CAS 64-19-7), supplied as a mildly acidic reconstitution vehicle. It exists in a peptide laboratory for one specific reason: some peptides are poorly soluble at neutral pH and dissolve readily in dilute acid, so a neutral diluent leaves visible undissolved material where this does not.

Solvent Properties & Research Context

• Why acid helps. Peptide solubility is lowest near the isoelectric point, where net charge approaches zero and molecules aggregate. Lowering the pH protonates basic residues, restores net positive charge, and increases solubility through electrostatic repulsion.

• Preferred over neutral diluent for certain peptides. This vehicle is commonly chosen for reconstituting AOD-9604, Kisspeptin-10 and IGF-1 LR3, which resist neutral aqueous vehicles.

• Volatile acid. Acetic acid evaporates with the solvent on lyophilisation, so it does not leave a fixed salt burden the way a mineral acid would.

• Not a universal diluent. Acid-labile compounds and those already soluble at neutral pH belong in standard research diluent instead. Match the vehicle to the peptide rather than defaulting to this one.
